TAS09: Garage Yawata Street Special GT-R

It doesn’t come much more understated than the Garage Yawata GT-R with it’s barely noticeable external modifications. On the inside lurks quite a bit of power, 650ps to be precise.

Making that power is a LOUD full titanium variable sound exhaust system controlled by throttle linked bypass valve. The OEM ECU is tuned by Garage Yawata and the 100ps shot of nitrous doesn’t hurt either.

Garage Yawata recently finished second in the top speed challenge in Video Option DVD issue 178 published recently. Their top speed was 324km/h (200mph).

TAS09: Garage Saurus GT-R, Original Saurus Parts Net 650ps

One of the more subdued GT-Rs at Tokyo Auto Salon 2009 was also sporting some interesting modifications. Regular readers will have been tracking Garage Saurus’ build up for some time now and at AutoSalon we finally got to take some close up photos.

Featuring the Garage Saurus original parts lineup such as the exhaust system including Garage Saurus Extension front pipes, Garage Saurus No.2 straight through mid-pipes and Garage Saurus centre exit muffler.

On the intake side, an original Garage Saurus intake/intercooler hard pipe kit with silicon hose joiners was held together with upgraded hose clamps. A pair of Trust/GReddy R35 GT-R intercoolers is fitted to round it out.

Making 650ps on the standard fuel delivery system is not a great idea, the injectors will be strained resulting in a lean fuel mixture. Something you definitely can not live with. Garage Saurus have thus upgraded the injectors and to provide that stronger spark, have gone with OKD-R Coils. Controlling all these is a Garage Saurus Power-ROM ECU upgrade.

In terms of handling, Garage Saurus tuned Ohlins suspension with 16kg/mm spring rates up front and 12kg/mm spring rates in the rear does the job. Wheels are Yokohama ADVAN RS-D in size 9.5x20″+40mm offset front and 10.5x20″+20 offset rear wrapped in 255/35 front and 285/30 rear Yokohama ADVAN Sports tires. Stopping power is enhanced with some new Project µ brake rotors front and rear with Project µ 900i brake pads.

A Garage Saurus GT-R transmission cooler kit keeps trans temps down at the track.

TAS2009: Mine's Reveal New GT-R Carbon Parts

Mine’s have been quite good at keeping their latest carbon parts away from the public so that they can reveal them at Tokyo AutoSalon this year. Partnering again with Mooncraft, they have produced quite a number of premium quality parts for the discerning GT-R owner.

First up we have an updated Mine’s Dry Carbon front lip spoiler. This new lip integrates brake ducting and a slightly more aggressive look. This is available concurrently with the original Mine’s front lip spoiler.

Next we have this brand new carbon hood. Styled identical to the OE hood this has an exceptional finish and can be left bare or painted as shown on here the Mine’s demo car. The Mine’s carbon hood saves weight over the front end of the car, combine with the Mine’s anti-sway bars to help eliminate understeer.

Here we see the new Mine’s carbon trunk lid. Another weight saver which is again top quality. It’s finished here with the new Mine’s carbon fibre rear wing aero cover, again from Mooncraft.

Lastly for this post we see the finished Mine’s Type-II aero mirror covers. The design is changed over any prototypes we’ve seen before.

We’ll get some pricing and maybe even some weights of these items shortly. Until then enjoy the rest of the photos after the jump.

TAS2009: Shadow Sports Design GT-R Tuning Parts Debut

Japanese tuning house Shadow Sports Design has made an entry in the GT-R market with their new aero kit, wheels and exhaust parts which debuted this weekend at Tokyo Auto Salon. Lead by the legend race and test driver, Masami Kageyama-san, Shadow Sports Design has come up with some significant innovations that should be of interest to many of our readers.

First up is the aero kit, the kit includes a dry carbon fibre front lip underspoiler, dry carbon rear spoiler and carbon fibre rear diffuser fins.

The front lip spoiler is ducted and the duct is quite functional as it connects to a dry carbon channel which directs air directly onto the front brake calipers. You can see in the image below the duct airflow.

The rear wing is quite tall but lightweight being built from dry carbon. It’s shaped to generate more rear downforce on the circuit. The rear diffuser is attached as fins to the standard rear undertray on the GT-R.

Shadow Sports Design has partnered with Enkei to design these exclusive forged magnesium 20″ wheels. Available in two colours, Black which is a high gloss black finish and Gun Metal which is a semi-gloss dark grey finish. The Gun Metal finish is pictured below and the Black finish can be seen after the jump.

The use of forged magnesium in the wheels results in an very lightweight wheel and a consequential reduction in unsprung, rotational mass. Each front wheel weighs just 9.85kg, a 2.05kg saving, and just 10.6kg for each rear wheel, a 1.6kg saving over standard.

As for the exhaust, Shadow Sports Design has opted for a full titanium muffler with some unique burnt titanium tips. A titanium de-cat mid-pipe featuring a single resonator completes the titanium exhaust lineup. Those wishing to maintain the catalyzers in the exhaust have a stainless high flow cat option also.

To round out the Shadow Sports Design GT-R demo car is a pair of Shadow Sports Design racing seats fitted with Schroth Racing harnesses. Check out loads more photos after the jump!

TAS2009: Power Enterprise Four Charger GT-R

The Power Enterprise R35 GT-R Four Charger made quite a statement when it was announced in December. Twin charging each side of the engine bay for a total of four turbines seems like an interesting idea at first glance but the use of Rotorex superchargers called the usefulness of this into doubt.

GTRBlog spoke with Hideo-san from Power Enterprise today at Tokyo AutoSalon where the Four Charger is on display about the realistic side of the Four Charger setup.

Firstly, yes this kit is planned for sale globally so this isn’t just a one off demo car for AutoSalon. So we asked; Why go down the complicated Four Charger route instead of just doing something like an increase in turbocharger size? The answer is found in terms of peak power RPM and the useable power band.

No-one can really say the VR38DETT motor lacks mid range torque, in fact it’s a great lag free drive in many owners opinions. Power Enterprise think it could be better though so making peak power available at just 4,000 rpm (instead of the ~6,000 rpm standard) is there goal. When they say peak power though they’re not referring to the standard 480ps anymore - they mean as much as 700ps!

Yes this kit is being built to produce as much as 700ps in the top specification. At specifications higher than 600ps your standard injectors and fuel pump are not sufficient anymore and such kits will come with replacements for each. In fact all OE parts not up to the task will be replaced by components in the final kit so that customers will not have to shop around for bits and pieces to finish the job. This includes an ECU solution that is said to defeat all known ECU cutouts such as the overboost protection, transmission failsafe cutout, Japanese speed limiters and so forth.

The P-MAP ECU tuned by Power Enterprise for the R35 GT-R Four Charger is said to be able to intercept the relevant signals which cause the GT-R’s ECU to trigger these protection circuits and prevent it occurring. It’s a separate module that is wired into the ECU harness.

The kit will consist of the superchargers, an intake hard pipe kit w/ silicon joiners and upgraded host clamps, CAI setup, a replacement radiator shroud (aluminium most likely), injectors, fuel pump and so on. An upgraded intercooler is also in development.

As for changing the weight distribution of the car with all this gear at the front of the engine, Power Enterprise say the footprint is quite small and that the weight is not a serious concern.

Right now the kit is still in testing so no final dyno charts are available and for this reason Power Enterprise won’t release any official dyno chart. They will however have these available when the kit is completed to their high standards and proven reliable.

Expect all this to come at a price however, an estimated USD RRP of $10,000 - $15,000 dollars.

For those happy with “just” 600ps, Power Enterprise have you covered as well with their GT600 kit. Check our previous post on that one for contents but photos of the items are below. Their exhaust looks great as expected from these guys.

Thank’s to Hideo-san from Power Enterprise for the time to answer our questions.
